I'm done with Step 1 in building the new Magpie residence. The walls are all up, and it has a roof.

This is the front, which I've tried to spruce up a little with canopies. It will probably look a lot better when it gets a more detailed siding. For now it just has something from the base-game slapped on. I've found a pretty good one that is grey brick with white borders, but I'm looking for a good sandstone siding too. That would probably look more authentic.

Here's the back, with a couple of base-game objects for scale. It's a big house! :D The swimming pool will be right outside the left wing.

It's too large to fit into one single overhead shot, but here you see the layout of the central building and one wing. It's symmertrically laid out, and both floors are practically identical, so in all there are a whooping 32 bedrooms. Most of the ones on the second floor will be used for other things, though.

The dining room can fit 24 Sims. x) I'm looking for 5-tile dining tables, though. The mod I use "only" allows cooking 20 serving at the time, but it never happens that everyone's hungry at once. The large room on the left will be a huuuuge kitchen with two fridges, two ovens, etc. On the other side of the dining room, they'll have the family room.

The attick can be developed, but I hope for Goodness' sake that won't be necssary!

It's not difficult. You use the "page up" key to go to the next floor. Then you simply start dragging new walls by placing the wall tool on top of the first floor. It's easier to see if you put flooring down first, which you do by dragging it over the transparent grid, just like you'd do on the ground. Put the wall tool on a corner and start dragging.

"Page down" takes you downstairs again. "Home" puts walls up, "end" cuts them away. There are icons for it on the user panel as well, but I prefer using keys.
