So, this has been today's ambitious building project, an ancient sea water pool, dating back to the 1930s. It's still a work in progress, because the utility building is barely furnised, and I need a few more statement pieces to give this place the feeling of being *~*Deco*~*. I also feel the I failed at creating the impression that this place is very old, if well maintained.

I thought it would be interesting to have an "island" in the middle of the pool. Eh, not sure I'm 100% happy with it, because it makes me think more of 1980s tourist resorts on Gran Canaria, which I've actually only seen in pictures.

The pool gets its water from the ocean, so visitors can swim in healthy salt water without the risk of undertows, sharks and stinging jellies. I wish I could have gotten the pool a lot closer to the actual sea, though. It's probably possible, with cheats and stuff.

I built this lot specially for my Spanish hood, but I kind of want to improve on the design and use it in other hoods.

The old beach lot is right next door.

I think the café/changing room/bathroom building came out sort of cool. My Google-Fu failed at letting me learn how to do those quarter-height walls people use to make flat "designer" roofs and arches, etc. I didn't want the roof to be as flat as this.

Now I need lots of vintage-style CC, to make the Café that Time Forgot.

I actually bothered to make a proper staircase, this time. On the other two beach lots I've made (which are pretty much the same lot), Sims have a very hard time figuring out how to hillside. If they're even going to use the staircase, is another matter entirely.

The stairs is the only way down to the pool, however. It's completely enclosed.

I had to get creative with the use of plants, to cover the unsightly trenches behind the pool wall and along the stairs. It looks like the trees have started to conquer the lot, because it's been a while since the last trim they had. I didn't want to go for a derelict look, but I like the idea that this is a place that's fallen a bit out of popularity, and is mainly visited by people who want to swim in peace. :)

If you know where I can find curved walls and windows for Sims 2, then please do tell me!

I like what you've done with it so far, including the slightly-overgrown look.

Curved walls! I've had these bookmarked to try out forever (still haven't XD):

I don't know if you can put windows in them, though. Probably not.

(While you're there, a Mediterranean wallpaper set may or may not show up in the "Also by this artist" area. If it doesn't, here's the link: http://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/417071 You may like them for your Spanish neighborhood.)

However! I just found these:

I think I'll try them, too!

Awww, thank you for the links! :D I'll get both sets of walls, in case they work differenly. One might be better for this, and the other one for that, etc.

I've got it into my head that I need moar Art Deco buildings, including a recreation of my own home-town's cinema, and a house with a *~*~*mysterious*~*~* backstory... :D

Sounds great! If I had more time for building, I'd like to scale down the House on Haunted Hill, for just one project. Oh well. I'm glad to be too busy.

I'd very much like to sit under the palm in the middle of the pool myself^^

While it doesn't actually look too old, somehow at first look it reminded me of Palacio de Cristal (don't ask how, it's just a feeling, and I haven't been to Madrid in ages).

I'll admit that while I was working on this (the pool had to be moved further in several times, and TigerAnne's head became a hot place), I started yearning to take a dip into that clear, blue water. :D

Oh it looks great! Looks like you've spent quite a while designing that lot, I really like it. I bet it would be so much fun to spend time in a place like that but if sims appreciate it or not, it's a completely different story!

For some reason "Café that Time Forgot" reminded me of this 90's tv-show called Nightmare Cafe that I used to watch as a kid! xD

It was soooo hard to get that darn pool the right size and shape! I had to flatten a lot more of the lot than the levelling tool would actually allow. So, I had to use the "lower terrain" tool, make huge ugly craters, and then the leveller thing would comply. I knew I didn't want this pool to be rectangular, or have any 90 degree angles, but I forgot that the curve tools don't work the same way in TS2 as in TS3, where you can drag the curved pieces out to larger sizes. I could have done this lot so much better in that game!

I test-played it with some of the Athertons. As far as I could tell, everybody used the stairs, because the only other way anywhere is to go all the way around the cafe. Visitors also use the pool out of free will, but as usual they don't go into the ocean. That's okay, though. Pools like these are meant as a safer alternative to swimming in the open sea.

I really want a super-retro café in the service building, and I want the colour scheme to be in seafoam green and light blue, with white accents. :D Maybe some cute bubblegum pink items to spice it up. :D :D

I definitely want to see the café when it's ready! Sounds good! :)

If I'm happy with how it turns out, expect to see it used as a dating-site. :)

That looks really cool! And maybe it just hasn't been updated in a few decades, which explains the 80s look ;D

Thanks! There definitely haven't been any major updates to it in the last 30 years. The whole town it's in has been on the decline, and has only recently been getting a few more inhabitants and a slight increase in its almost non-existing tourism. I think the pool structures have been given some necessary repairs and a new coat of paint quite recently, and that's it, as modernization goes.

I also just realised that it would look a lot better with a fountain on the diving board "island," instead of those plants. There probably was one, but it was removed as an 80s update. ;)
